Take Action

Thank Mayor Nutter, Governor Rendell, Senator Fumo and Representative Evans for their efforts to resite the casinos away from the Riverfront!

On July 3rd, 2008, Senator Vincent Fumo and Representative Dwight Evans held a joint press conference announcing their commitment to work together to try and resite both casinos. They pledged to use all resources of the legislature, including passing new laws, if the casinos do not move voluntarily. Mayor Nutter has been working hard since he took office in January to stop the casinos from being built along Philadelphia's Riverfront. Governor Rendell has recently expressed willingness to resite the casinos despite stubbornly supporting these casino locations since the beginning. In their own way they have each recently taken a stance to resite the casinos and they deserve our thanks. Please call each of these people today and thank them for working to resite the proposed casinos.

Mayor Nutter: 215-686-2181
Governor Rendell: 717-787-2500
Senator Fumo: 717-787-5662
Representative Evans: 717-783-1540

Also, please send them an email thanking them and asking them to adhere to our resisting principles clicking here.

Don't Ask, Just Tell! | You'd think the Governor would have a bit more power than casino owners. But, according to Gov. Rendell, we "shouldn't get too excited" about his efforts to get the casinos to move from the proposed riverfront locations. He says he can't force the casinos to move. But, isn't it the job of government to fix fatally flawed laws? Sorry Ed, we’ve caught on. If you really want to stand up to special interest groups and look out for the public like the governor you are, don't ask the casinos to move, tell them!

Casino-Free Philadelphia requests investigation of Chief Justice Castille | Today Casino-Free Philadelphia, along with 15 citizens, filed a request with the Pennsylvania Judicial Conduct Board seeking in investigation into the conduct of Chief Justice Ronald D. Castille. We believe Justice Castille acted inappropriately and unethically by making public statements about the federal lawsuit recently filed by the League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania against former Chief Justice Ralph J. Cappy.
