Targeting Investors

Saturday, January 12th Action Update:

Thanks to everyone who came out on Saturday for a great day! Take a look at the pictures that JJ took of the action!

Why the Investors?

We are targeting investors because they are ultimately the cause of the casino problems plaguing Philadelphia. Without the investors there would be no casino proposals to build casinos in thriving neighborhoods. Thus far the investors have not been placed in the spotlight. But, now it’s time to draw attention to their prominent role in this fiasco. We are asking them to think about whether they would want casinos in their own neighborhoods. Or, invite them to move their families to the 100 block of Allen Street so they too can live less than 200 feet from the slots parlor they so adamantly support. We want them to look into their conscience and act accordingly.

We will employ a variety of creative tactics to shed light on the fact that the investors SugarHouse and Foxwoods are supporting bad projects. The two components at this time are visible actions and a letter writing campaign. The actions draw community attention to the issue. Letters sent directly to investors add an individual perspective while at the same time making known the names of the investors. Asian American United Statement on Mayor's Signature | Asian American United's powerful statement about the City Council and the Mayor’s actions. Please read it here below.
Asian Americans United is disappointed but not surprised by the Mayor's decision. It has been clear from the start that there has been no intent to engage in an inclusive process that respects the voices of residents and communities. Worse still has been witnessing the dismantling of processes that have been established in our city precisely to protect residents from capricious and self-serving development.
