In the 11 cases SugarHouse has had at the Supreme Court, SugarHouse has won all 11. Will SugarHouse's riparian rights case be their 12th win?
To mark SugarHouse's twelfth case, we believe it's time for us to declare that 12 is tea time. And of course tea was our forefathers' revolutionary symbol of declaring freedom from tyranny. That's why Casino-Free Philadelphia is pleased to announce that we will help you send a real tea bag to the Supreme Court, today..

Our Supreme Court is having a rough time. SugarHouse said that they needed a ruling on the riparian rights case before they bought the property yet last week it was rumored that SugarHouse went ahead and bought the property. What's with that? Also, just a few days ago, the League of Women Voters filed a lawsuit claiming that in 2005, then- Chief Justice Ralph Cappy struck a secret deal with legislative leaders to uphold the constitutionality of Pennsylvania's gambling bill. We fear the court has lost its independence and that the fix is in.
There is no way SugarHouse should win the pending legal case. At the end of its last term, Mayor John Street, probably at the behest of Governor Rendell, granted SugarHouse Casino a license to build on 11 acres of riparian lands along the Delaware River. Now, Mayor Nutter's administration, Philadelphia City Council, and members of Philadelphia's legislative delegation, including Representatives Mike O'Brien and Bill Keller and Senator Vince Fumo, are arguing in the Supreme Court that the Street administration overstepped its legal authority. SugarHouse is in the case seeking to uphold Mayor Street's actions. If the Supreme Court delivers SugarHouse its 12th win, it will be in defiance of the law, our city officials, state officials and common sense.

We're sending you this message today because the Supreme Court tends to issue these pro-casino rulings on Friday afternoons, to minimize the press coverage.
Here is how our tea party will work: If you donate to Casino-Free Philadelphia, we will put your name on a card, enclose an actual tea bag, and mail it to the Supreme Court. All you have to do is donate $1 but of course we hope you'll donate more. We here at Casino-Free are doing such great things to protect Philadelphia neighborhoods from slots parlors . . . but we need to continue to raise money. The more you donate, the more effective we will be. Oh yeah, we'll send copies of your card to elected officials in Harrisburg and in City Hall to let them know that we appreciate their continued assistance and support for casino-free neighborhoods.
